It doesn’t take being a mathematician to count how many earths we have. Just the one at the moment is the general consensus. This means that are as far as our buying and consumer behaviour goes, what we do, what we throw away and how we generally and specifically treat our planet matters. It matters to us and it matters to our little sproutlings that are going to grow up and hopefully never ask, ‘mum/dad, it says in this book there’s something called a dolphin, they aren’t real are they?’ *shudder* Let’s never get to that. Recycling ink and toner cartridges have been around for a while but not many people know how to do it. Let’s get stuck in.

Many of us also think that when it comes to looking after the planet you have to do all green, hop aboard the most vintage looking boat you have and sail the high seas looking for plastic in the ocean (which is an incredible thing and thank you to those who are doing it) but sometimes thinking like that gives us excuses not to care and to not change our ways. We can all pitch in and with every great or small project, it’s that first step that’s the most important. Everyone can help protect the environment a little bit more and a little bit more each day. We wanted to give you some tips on how to help with where you dispose of your ink cartridges.

As ink cartridges are made from durable plastic and fit all the requirements for recycling it is important to note THEY CAN be recycled. Don’t throw them in the bin, there are so many different ways that you can re-use the cartridges for another day and another stellar printing job.

  1. SENDING BACK TO THE MANUFACTURER

As many of us use varied ink and toner branded cartridges, it’s important that you

  • Figure out what brand you use
  • Go on to their website and see their “send back” “recycling” process
  • Follow their instructions

Click here for Lexmark’s Collection Program.

Click here for Xerox’ Recycling Program.

  1. CHARITIES

Many charities and schools have programs that they are running to collect ink cartridges either to recycle them or to re-use them.

  • Google charities + ink cartridge recycling + [your local area]

You will likely find a few options that will suit you travelling capabilities and schedule.

  1. Recycling Businesses

There are a few businesses that have set up their operations to seek out empty cartridges and either buy them off consumers or simply take them off your hands.

You can either have a google of the businesses in your area that is doing this or has a squizz at the following below.
