Inkjet vs Laser Printer: Which Printer is Right for You?

No one can tell you what printer is right for you. Only, you can make that decision. If you are wondering which printer to buy, then this article is for you.

Inkjet Printers

Inkjet Printers are less expensive, more compact and serve a dual-purpose — photos and documents. The ink, for inkjet printers, does not make as many copies as laser printer toner cartridges. Inkjet printers also cost more per page. These printers are more commonly used at home.

Laser Printers

These are the pricier printers and the toner is even more so. Nevertheless, the laser printer costs less per page. They print faster and tend to have lower maintenance overall, are best for documents, not photos. Laser printers are used more in offices, however, for high volume printing at home they are perfect. Homeschooling families, work-at-home parents, and students are examples of people who may need a laser printer more than an inkjet printer.

Questions to Ask Yourself

Why do you need a printer?

What will you use it for?

Color or black and white? Photos? If your answer is yes to color printing, be aware that inkjet printers are the way to go for photography since these printers produce higher quality photos than laser printers. The ink in the inkjet also gives the photos a longer life. Laser printers are good for colored copies such as documents with color charts or brochures with basic graphic art.

Will you print mostly documents?

At home, at the office or at school?

If you will only use a printer occasionally, then an inkjet would serve you well. However, if you homeschool, have a business or are student printing out notes or papers daily, the laser printer would be the best choice for you.

What is your budget? Sometimes decision-making comes down to the size of your budget. Inkjet printers cost less than laser printers and so does the ink. If money is not a problem, then other factors need to be considered first.

Making Your Decision

Once you have asked and answered the questions above, you will be able to decide on what printer is right for you.

Good luck and happy shopping!
