Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection.Just as a single prayer can be siginificant, how much more so when hundreds, thousands, millions of people throughout the world join in peaceful thoughts and prayers to nurture neighbor and nature.the world and hearts and minds can join together with thoughts of harmony and Earth’s rejuvenation.It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network,and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.

Former U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day’s co-founder, modeled Earth Day on anti-Vietnam War demonstrations, called “teach-ins,” that were common on college campuses. “At a conference in Seattle in September 1969, I announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide grassroots demonstration on behalf of the environment,” says Nelson. “The response was electric. Telegrams, letters, and telephone inquiries poured in from all across the country.The “Earth Flag”, which was designed by John McConnell, has been described as a “flag for all people”. It features a two-sided dye printed image of the Earth from space on a dark blue field, made from recyclable, weather-resistant polyester.

In recent years,global warming has resulted in a lot of environmental crisis.How to protect out environmental has become a hot issue all over the globe.Like Earth Days of the past, Earth Day 2014 will focus on the unique environmental challenges of our time.Earth Day 2014 will continue to seek global theme :Green Cities.Every effort to encourage Earth care is to be commended such as planting trees, picking up roadside trash, conducting various programs for recycling and conservation, using recyclable containers for snacks and lunches.Some people are encouraged to sign petitions to governments, calling for stronger or immediate action to stop global warming and to reverse environmental destruction.
