As long as you have the fourth generation iPod you will be able to learn how to unlock iPod touch without restoring. If the iPod is brand new, before trying to unlock it make sure it has already been synced with a computer and iTunes. Then it will be relatively easy to unlock the iPod without losing any of your stored data in the process. Actually you will be able to complete the process safely and quickly by using a free program called JailbreakMe. Then you will be able to purchase apps from a third party provider, Cydia.
On the home screen of you IPod tap the Safari icon to get online and surf the web. Go to the JailbreakMe site and you should see a listing for the Cydia app store. There should be a button labeled free and after it is tapped, the text will change to where it reads “install.” Go ahead and tap install so that it will download Cydia onto the iPod Touch.
After the installation is completely done there should be a popup dialogue box asking you to complete the upgrade. Tap it and it will download the updated version of Cydia. This will reboot the iPod Touch and the jailbreaking process will be completed.
